We are planning a 2/3 day early career conference in Frankfurt am Main, which aims to build upon the significant Frankfurt Foucault Conference of 2001. The primary focus will be on the specific German reception of Foucault. On one hand, we intend to historicize and contextualize the contentious academic reception history and reflect on potential blind spots by firstly focusing on the differences between the German and the French reception of Foucault and secondly by looking at new reception perspectives (e. g. Queer Theory, Postcolonialism, New Materialisms, etc.). On the other hand, we will address the public reception of Foucault, his influence on the history of ideas, as well as his role in current debates surrounding ‘Cancel Culture’ and ‘Identity Politics.’ In addition to the workshop presentations by early career researchers, there will also be public keynotes by prominent academics.
